The Perfect Table Styling

Collaboration Time!

A few months ago Kelly Camfferman from Good Food Love and I were brainstorming ideas for creating videos that could inspire others. Of course her speciality is Food and mine is Interior so we came up with the idea of making video’s about how food and interior collide. For us there is nothing better than a beautiful atmosphere paired with creative and beautiful food. We decided to call our idea “Smaak and Style”.

We then found just the right partner, a home and living platform with inspirational content that you can instantly shop. So easy! Our first meeting was full of energetic ideas that we all immediately started putting into action. Our first video theme we decided to go with was that age old struggle: how to create the perfect table styling. The text on the video is in Dutch so for the english tips, read below!

All these pretty items were styled in collaboration with VTWonen. You can shop all the items on the video here.
Stay tuned for another video of Kelly telling you how you can ‘wow’ your dinner guests by decorating the perfect salad!

Here are a few tips I came up with. I hope they help you prepare for your next perfect dinner party.

1.) Start with a Theme in Mind

As an interior designer and stylist I always start with a theme in mind. It can be anything from a color to the kind of atmosphere you would like to create.  The theme that I choose for this table styling was Minimal and Watercolors. The color’s I choose were black, white and gold for the accessories, with a hint of green!

2.) Start with Layers

It is easiest if you think about building your table up with with layers. Start with what goes on the table (table cloth or place mats), then you add the bigger plates, bowls, etc. After that you start with the silverware, glassware and at the end you decorate the table with all of the accessories you have chosen. TIP: You can also roll up a runner for a playful effect!

3.) Add Green To Your Table

No table styling is complete without plants or flowers. For me this is a great way to add extra color and movement to what is happening on the table. It also adds great lines for your layers! For this table styling I added both blooms and succulents.

4.) Add Something Personal To Your Table Styling (DIY Watercolor Napkins)

This can be your grandmothers plates or a Do It Yourself Watercolor Napkins ( tips to come later). This is great for conversation at dinner as well as helping your guests feel extra special and welcomed by you, their host!
